Get To Know Raaaaaaaandy
As much as I’m looking forward to seeing Judd Apatow’s Funny People, I’ll also be a little sad when it comes out, because it means the end of the hilarious viral campaign introducing us to the film’s characters. In case you’ve missed it so far– and it’s included a crappy movie career for Adam Sandler’s character, a Saturday morning TV show for Jason Schwartzman, and the invention of the most obnoxious stand-up ever, Raaaandy– there’s a rundown here. But right now we’ve got something new from Raaaaaandy, the upstart stand-up comic played by Aziz Ansari who might be the most genius creation yet.
If you’ve visited his website, you know Randy as the kind of comic who yells his punchlines for effect, talks constantly about his dick and his sexual prowess, and treats his fans more as minions than regular people. Now, in a documentary about him featured at Funny or Die, we see even more of Randy in action, telling a long story about performing cunnilingus in a hot tub, charging audience members 18 for photos of themselves in the audience, and photoshopping his own face on to porn. Oh yes, it’s so worth watching.
I get the feeling Ansari will be a minor character in Funny People, since Randy hasn’t figured into any of the trailers. But if this is the reason that Ansari blows up big, I’m all for it– he’s hilarious in everything he does, and totally due for stardom. And if he gets there by playing someone as talentless as Randy, that’s all the more entertaining.
