Top Gun Goes To Vegas

Does the success of The Hangover mean we’re going to be flooded with movies that are set in Las Vegas for no particular reason? Or, more specifically, is the existence of Vegas Avengers due entirely to The Hangover?
The movies don’t seem that similar– Avengers will be about a top-secret program for flying experimental, unmanned planes, rather than a wild night out. But I feel suspicious because, based on the THR synopsis, there doesn’t seem to be a good reason for the thing to be set in Vegas at all, other than to make a place for these new-age Goose and Mavericks to go get wild when they’re off duty.
Soo Hugh, whose script Deadline made the “blacklist” of the best unproduced screenplays in the business, will be handling the writing for this one, which makes it more likely that it will turn out to be something other than a pulpy Top Gun retread. But I’m still predicting a Vegas burnout coming soon, when everyone finally goes to Vegas after seeing these movies and realizes it’s not half as awesome as Todd Phillips was making it seem.
